Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews, a second time today, with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!

So guys, this is another on the fly review, for a new movie that just came out this Friday, this was not scheduled for today but I saw that a good version of this movie was online so I watched it and now I can review for you guys, like I said I would as soon as I see it. It's an unscripted, unscheduled and totally raw movie review for James Wan's new horror adventure. Before I get into this review, a little synopsis for you guys:

  • The film stars Annabelle Wallis as a woman who begins to have visions of people getting murdered, only to realize the events are happening in real life.

Man, this movie was something else. James Wan comes out of nowhere with this crazy and bonkers of an original horror concept that really works and completely flips the script right on it's head. It starts very intense, with a powerful scene in which you have no idea what's happening and then it cuts to the present days, slowing down a bit but, shortly after, shocking us again and makes us questioning what the hell is going on. It does have the feel of the Insidious and The Conjuring movies, the atmosphere is definitely creepy and unsettling plus the soundtrack and the sound design definitely turns up that atmosphere. It makes you think you are watching a ghost story but it's something entirely different.

The movie is not that scary, it does have some creepy moments and a strange vibe to it but not anything that can really scare you. There are maybe a jump scare or two but not something worth mentioning in that department. The story, mainly throughout the movie, is a bit confusing and raises more questions than answers but, in the third act, the movie gave the answers to all those questions with a twist so crazy unbelievable and so memorable that can go down as one of the most unexpected and disturbing twists in movie history, rivalling the ones in the Shyamalan movies, the good ones at least :)).

Also, the movie is very violent and gory which was a bit excessive for me. I mean, I like some R rated violence in movies but I believe this was a bit to far with the gore and violence but I was not that disturbed by it.

Overall, a good and smart horror movie that subverts expectations and it does fall into the normal formula of horror movies these days. It might not be for everyone because it does not contain jump scares and ghosts or demons but it's got enough creepiness and disturbing vibes, plus that twist, that can easily satisfy a horror fan or a James Wan fan or both. 7.3/10

OK guys, that was my review for this one. This was a new one amongst these all missed ones which felt like a breath of fresh air to be honest but next up is going to be a missed one I think, A Quiet Place Part 2. I also saw Don't Breathe 2 but I am not sure that I will do a review for that but who knows :)).

Until then guys, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
