Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!
So the wait has been finally over and I got to see the latest James Bond movie and the last James Bond movie of the Daniel Craig era of Bond movies. After being pushed back so many times by the pandemic and other things, the movie was finally released this weekend, in some countries and I got the chance to see it, on Sunday, with a friend of mine , who is a massive James Bond fan. The dude has seen all of the movies, even the older ones and that's something. Me, I am not that of a fan of the whole James Bond saga, I have only seen the Daniel Craig and the Pierce Brosnan ones but I really enjoyed those movies so I am here to give you my thoughts on this latest Bond adventure.
Before I dive into this review, a little of a synopsis for you because that is how we do things here at Movie Nerd:
In No Time To Die, Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
So let's get the negative stuff out of the way because there are some issues and I want to address them now so I can just get them out of the way.
First of all, the movie is way to long and I think is the longest in the series, not just amongst the Daniel Craig movies but the whole series. You can feel that the movie is nearly 3 hours long and, in my opinion, there were some scenes that were not that important to the plot or the main story and could have been easily cut to shorten the length of the movies. Second of all, there are some inconsistencies in the story, like how a little girl can drag a body of a full grown man and a bit of a plot hole with the main villain, like he is roughly the same age as the woman that was the little girl and that is not addressed properly or at all, for that matter. And thirdly, speaking of the main villain, it was a bit of a let down because he is not that present in the movie and that does not make him menacing enough resulting in he's presence being less than impactful. It does have some impact on the story but not enough do be that compelling or interesting. Rami Malek is a good actor but this type of a role does not really suit him.
Ok, I am done with the issues that I have with the movie and now let's get to the positives. It starts very calmly and then, all of a sudden you are hit with an intense action sequence that really is effective in it's transition. As I am on the subject of action sequences, there are some very good ones in this movie. Very intense and very well paced and very well filmed and created. Plus, the movie looks very good, there are some very beautiful camera shots that really drives in that feel, it has a very good visual aesthetic from the beginning accompanied by an even better soundtrack. The Bond theme is used very often in this movie, much more than in the others and it doesn't feel excessive because it's different each time that is being used. Plus mister Hans Zimmer brings his iconic horns in this soundtrack and, also, my friend pointed it out for me, that in some of the soundtrack they mixed in some of the classical bits from the more older Bond movies. This one being the last incarnation of this character, I assume they wanted to give it the send off it deserved.
It has the more classical look and feel of the much older Bond movies plus we get to see the return of a more hearted James Bond and that was very nice, for he's last adventure. The acting is on point, Daniel Craig still nailing the part and I can safely say that he is the most well dressed Bond because he can fit a suit like crazy and there are some good looking suits in this movie.
Overall, I really enjoyed the movie, I can put it right above with Casino Royale and Skyfall . It has an emotional ending that really made me choke a bit and I really believe it was worth the wait. Excellent action sequences, amazing visuals and sound design plus the main song from Billie Eilish is great. An all emotional send off to this very popular character. Not the most sleekest or the most daring but definitely one of the most emotional ones. 8/10
OK guys, that was my review for this movie. I know, I said that I would do the last of the missed ones, which is the second Escape Room movie and I will get to do that as well but time is stretched very thin and I cannot seem to find the time to do it. I will do that, no question asked but, more importantly, the one that is definitely coming is the one for Venom: Let There Be Carnage which I am hoping to see this weekend. I already heard that it made a tone of money and trashed by critics but I don't care. I just want to have fun, turn my brain off and see some carnage happening.
Until then guys, take care, stay safe, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
