Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, the place where you can be nerdy about movies!

Guys, get ready for another on the fly review because I did not expect to do a review for this movie tonight. I was thinking of seeing this movie this weekend and do a review then but I found a good version online and told myself to see it tonight and do another review on the fly, uncut, unedited, unscripted, raw and unfiltered for you, my nerd babies :)).

Before I dive into this review, a little synopsis for you guys, even though this movie came out some time ago but, like you already are used on this site, I always give a synopsis for a movie, no matter what. It's a matter of life and death :))

Not the best in terms of a synopsis but that's all I got and also I am guessing most of you guys have already seen the movie and know about it. Plus, you are not here for movie synopsises but for movie reviews :))

So, with that being said, I always thought that, among the whole G.I. Joe characters roster, Snake Eyes was the most interesting but it was really necessary to have an origin story for this character, which I think the mystery that surrounded him in the previous movies made him more interesting. We already had some of his backstory in the first movie, The Rise of Cobra which was not much but it was enough to understand the character a bit so a whole origin movie was really necessary?

Well, the answer to that question is not really but it does not hurt the character and does not make him less interesting. Actually, it makes him a bit less interesting because that whole mystery behind him has disappeared and, when you will revisit the other movies, you will know the full story and, at least in my opinion, that takes a bit part of what makes this character so interesting and mysterious.

With that said, the movie feels different from the other movies in the franchise, it feels more story driven, a story that is not very interesting to begin with, and with less action sequences than the others. Although it's less on action and more on story, when the movie does action it does it fairly well, with well filmed sequences, well edited, a bit of shaky cam sometimes but not that much to make you feel sick :)). The action scenes are entertaining and intense plus the movie compensates the lack of it during the movie with it's third act, when it's just loud and intense action.

The characters don't look that impressive to start with but the well chosen cast plus Henry Golding's work in the title role make up for it with style and charm. The move also suffers from some genre cliches that make it a bit predictable, including the main story plot, which I have already seen it in other action movies. Also, a bit that really annoyed me is that the suit is revealed at the end of the movie. At least, in the third act of the movie, that suit should have appeared and Snake Eyes to fight in it but that did not happen, unfortunately.

Overall, a step up in the G.I. Joe franchise definitely but, unfortunately, not enough I believe to earn another movie after this one, even though this one is a prequel reboot of the The Rise of Cobra and Retaliation movies. 6.2/10

OK guys, that was my on the fly review for this one. Like I said in my other review, I will try and do more missed reviews for movies that have already been released. I am hoping that I can do a couple of them this week. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
