Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!

So, in my last review I said that I may do a review for the second Sonic movie but, I was not able to go and see it yet so, instead of bringing you a review for that movie I offer you a review for a horror movie that I saw just a couple of days ago. By the way, this is an unplanned, a on the fly review as I say because I did not scheduled this one, even if I watched the movie but, the movie was so bad, that I really wanted to do a review for it, maybe even a bit of a rant, as well.

Before all of that, a little synopsis for you guys, to get you going and in the mood:

  • Amanda and her daughter live a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.

The premise for the movie sounds really interesting, doesn't it? And, it does have some potential for a compelling and creepy horror ghost story right? Well, the answer is yes to both questions but, the movie is just the opposite, a missed opportunity to create an interesting and scary ghost story.

Why missed? Because the movie squanders any sort of originality and scare factor by relying on every horror movie cliched that ever existed, making the whole experience uninteresting, boring and not scary, not even in the slightest. Because the movie is using so many cliches, it's easy for the audience to predict what will come next or what will happen or what the outcome of the whole situation will be, thus making the movie without any suspense or the ability to create some real creepy tension. I will admit, there are one or two creepy moments that really stand out, really shows you or us, the potential that this story, this movie and it's director really have to make an interesting movie experience. Unfortunately, where creativity lacks or is in short supply, the results really speak for themselves. Those little scary moments are very few and not enough to make this a good horror experience. Not gonna lie, the atmosphere is also quite chilling but, still, not enough to be scary. I can't believe that Sam Raimi was a producer for this, a guy that really knows how to do horror properly. I watched I walkthrough gameplay for a horror game after I watched this movie and that was scarier than this one.

Overall, although Sandra Oh gives an outstanding performance in this, the movie's lack of originality, creativity and scare factor brings all this viewing experience into the ground. 4.5/10

OK guys, that was my review for this one. Next up, until Doctor Strange arrives with his madness for the multiverse, I think I will do a review for the movie X, an A24 title, a studio that I really enjoy watching their movies.

Until then, take care, stay safe and keep on reviewing!
