Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!

So guys, last night I went and saw the second movie in the Venom franchise from this Sony Universe or however they are calling it. This is going to be a short review because this was a short movie, much shorter than the previous one and there isn't that much to say about it. Before I begin I will give you guys a little synopsis:

  • In the film, Brock struggles to adjust to life as the host of the alien symbiote Venom, while serial killer Cletus Kasady (Harrelson) escapes from prison after becoming the host of Carnage, a chaotic spawn of Venom.

The first movie, which I liked a lot, the best part of that movie was the odd couple/buddy cop type of a relationship between Eddie and Venom. That relationship is still present in this one as well and, although it leans more on the odd couple style than buddy cop, is still one of the strongest parts of the movie. It still works and it gives the movie the dose of humor that it needs amongst all the carnage that is going on around everything else. The sequel has some action but I felt that it was a little less than in the previous one and the action sequences, albeit fun and intense, were very short lived, except for the ultimate fight at the end, between Venom and Carnage, which was very good and better than the last fight from the first movie, between Venom and Riot. Unfortunately, the action sequences are a mess because the use of very quick cuts and a fast pace and some poor editing does not help those types of sequences very much. Yes, the scenes are fun and intense but the way of filming and framing them was not that good.

The comedy is still good, for the most part and, like I said, the relation between Venom and Eddie is the reason for all those comedic segments. It's not forced but it's a lot sillier than in the first one, being even cartoonish at some points but that means the movie kept it's tradition of silliness from the first one.

Another issue I had with the movie is that is way to loud. The sound design was highly exaggerated plus the musical soundtrack does not improve the sound part, except for the main song from Skylar Grey and Eminem. I know that it is a Venom movie and that it has Carnage in it and it suppose to be intense in every single way but they could have tone it down with the sound design. Also, the movie, visually, it's not pretty, except for one shot or two but it's a Venom movie so the visuals are the least of it's worries.

Speaking of Carnage, I was a little disappointed on how little he appeared in the movie. It's even shorter than the first one and Carnage appears on the verge of the third act and I believe in a movie that contains one of the most dangerous villains from the Venom and Spider Man comics, he should be one of the main focus. He's first appearance was awesome, very intense and very frightening and it's design was really on point but he was very little in the movie. Still, his presence had some impact.

Overall, a sequel that was made only for the fans because it has everything that the fans of the first movie would want. It's a turn your brain 100% off movie because you really don't need your brain for this one only by the fact that it's devoid of any logic and story and plot but it was still fun, with some good action here and there, a little dose of humor and a post credit scene that really blew my mind away and, in my opinion, a scene that is above the whole movie. A must stay after credits scene for a mediocre movie. 6.5/10

OK guys, that was my review for this one. I still need to do the second Escape Room movie but I am hoping I will have some time in the coming days to do it. The next 2 important reviews will be for Dune and Halloween Kills.

Until then guys, take care, stay safe, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
