Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!

So, because, for me, Easter is coming this weekend I thought that I will not have the time to do some reviews because I will be to busy celebrating and eating like crazy :)). With that being said, I, hopefully, can do the two reviews that I have programmed for this weekend, today, one I will do right now and, despite the title of the movie, is not a porn movie, I can assure you, although it does contain some explicit sex scenes and it's about a group of people filming a porn movie but, it's not a porn movie per se :)).

Before I start rambling about this movie, a quick synopsis for you guys:

  • In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.

So, now that you know the premise of this movie, which, some say that the movie is a fresh spin on the slasher genre and it's got a unique feel to it, they might be right. What my opinion is, is different. The premise of the movie may be quite original and have some sort of a unique feel to it, it also does use plenty of horror movie and slasher genre tropes quite often.

I mean, the whole feel of the movie does reminded me of other classic movies from the slasher genre like Friday the 13th or, more likely in this case, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. You got the group of people going on a road trip in a van, stopping at a gas station, you got the creepy ass farm with some creepy and disturbed people that like doing crazy stuff to other people. This movie has it all. Also, being so familiar does make the movie predictable and you can easily guess everything that follows, well mostly everything but, more importantly, the deaths are the most easily to predict because the movie gives you some hints or a little foreshadowing to some of the deaths and, I don't know if that was intentional or not but it does take some of the impact of those deaths out.

With all those flaws that the movie has, what I can say is, the movie does not bore at all, not even for a minute and, despite the death sequences being predictable, are also very well done and very gruesome and gory, which is the things that you would expect from a slasher movie and it definitely delivers on that front.

Like I said in the intro for this review, there are some sex scenes in the movie but there are a total of 3 scenes, with the third one being the disturbing and a bit nasty one. I am not sure how real those sex scenes were but, judging by the actors involved, they played it really well indeed. Also, Mia Goth, for me, was an outstanding performance, the best out of everybody else in the cast.

Overall, the movie's ''fresh spin'' on the slasher genre, for me, was almost nowhere to be found but, for slasher fans, which I am, really delivers on what you want from a slasher movie. It might ruffle some feathers with the sex scenes but it definitely hit the spot where it counts. Not very original and a bit disturbing at times but entertaining nonetheless. 7/10

OK guys, that was my review for this one. Next up I will do Michael Bay's new movie, Ambulance, which I hope I can find the time and do it tonight.

Until then, take care, stay safe and keep on reviewing!
