Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews, quarantine edition, with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies, even in a pandemic:))) So, because we are forced to stay home because of this outbreak, this is day I don't really know anymore for me, because I kinda lost count and the movies are canceled and movie theaters are all closing, I will still provide content by watching movies at home and give you my take on them.
First of all, Happy Easter to all because we need some hope and faith in these troubled times but, because of the pandemic we are forced to stay indoors meaning that we cannot go and see our relatives and families and we cannot get together to celebrate properly, I have some spare time on my hands to give you a review for this movie.
Before I get into that, a bit of a synopsis for you guys: It follows a Marine who was killed in action, only to be brought back to life with superpowers by an organization that wants to use him as a weapon.
Judging by the hype that this movie generated when it was announced, I expected a bit more than what I initially got because, although the movie gives some good action sequences and some average special effects, in some parts even good, the movie still comes as very mediocre old school action comic book movie.
I was talking about the action sequences being good but, actually I was being a bit ironic because, apart from one or two, the action sequences in this movie are poorly lit and badly edited. Plus, the special effects are not that good, except for the parts in which he heels himself, that actually looks pretty good, judging by the budget and that is Sony, which, in 2018, did Into the Spider-Verse, which looked amazing.
Actually, for a comic book adaptation, the movie is quite boring, to say the least, with all of it's action scenes that don't do much, to be honest. Performance wise, Vin Diesel is OK in this movie but he does not do anything much other that he does in the Fast and Furious franchise. At least he is not a talking tree in this one :)).
Overall, the movie was a huge disappointment for me, in a way Jonah Hex was back when it came out in 2010. It's got that old school action feel but it does not really deliver unfortunately. 5.5/10
OK guys, that is was my review for this one. Next up, I just saw The Lighthouse last night and I think I will give that a spin but after the Easter passes. Until then, take care, stay safe, stay clean, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing. Till next time guys! Peace out!
