Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews, quarantine edition, with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies, even in a pandemic:)))
So, the last couple of days were a bit crowded for me and I really did not find the time to do this review but I found a bit of spare time today to do a draft, re-write some stuff that did not fit and to come up with the final product, which you shall see or read in the following paragraphs.
Before I begin with this review, a bit of a synopsis for you guys: divided in two acts, the musical depicts the life and career of Alexander Hamilton, an orphaned immigrant from the Caribbean island of Nevis. The first act covers Hamilton's arrival in New York City in 1776, his work as an aide-de-camp to General George Washington during the American Revolution, and how he met and married Eliza Schuyler. The second act covers Hamilton's post war work as the first Secretary of the Treasury of the United States, his affair with Maria Reynolds, the death of his son Philip and finally his own death in a duel with Aaron Burr.
You should also know that this musical is a recording of the 2015 Broadway show, which is also inspired by the biography entitled simply Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow from 2004.
Despite the times that we are all living in these days, because of this pandemic, this musical can simply make you forget about that for 2 and a half hours, which will fly pretty quickly. You don't expect that an almost 3 hour musical can make that time simply go away so fast but, in this case, it will happen because you are simply mesmerized by the whole spectacle that is happening on your screen. The story is so well told and so inspiring, emotional, at times funny and sometimes very dramatic that makes you so invested in it. The music is incredible, the songs feel very catchy and modern, some of them can make you even dance.
Also, the choreography in this is amazing and very well captured by it's director, Thomas Kail. It captures the energy, the passion of the show and it's infectious nature. The musical shines beyond the stage, offering a viewing experience truly remarkable.
It has drama, it has conflict, it has humour, which I did not expect, it has emotion. It will make you cry, it will make you laugh but, mostly, it will fascinate you.
Overall, I have seen a bunch of good movies and very good movies these past few months, despite the fact that the theaters are still closed and this is, up until this point, the best one yet this year. Excellent music, very good choreography, great performances, a great story and a perfect direction to encapsulate all of this. 9.5/10
OK guys, that is my review for this one. Not sure what movie I shall review next, maybe Palm Springs and, also, not really sure when I will be able to draft and do the re-writes and when I will post it but, hopefully, very soon. Until then, take care, stay safe, stay clean, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
