Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!
I know, it has been a while since my last review but my free time is growing shorter by the minute and I cannot find the time to do this reviews in time but I am managing my time and, hopefully, I will be able to joggle it a bit more better.
So, with that out of the way, I can get back to my review of this live action adaptation of the popular Sonic video game but before I dive into this review, a bit of a synopsis for you about the movie: based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination.
Like I said, the movie is based on the popular SEGA video game which I played a little and it is awesome. The movie definitely has that feel of the game, with stuff from the game especially in the beginning at the start of the movie with the world that Sonic lives but it is for a brief moment and after that we arrive in the real world and the transition comes a bit to fast and it takes you a bit out of the game feel. Although it does that, the movie still remains a good video game adaptation, with very few flaws that other video game adaptations have. It has great action sequences, excellent video game inspired stuff, some awesome special effects plus a good dose of humor and the banter between Marsden and Sonic resembles very much the relation from Detective Pikachu. Speaking of special effects, everybody knows what happened when Sony released the first trailer for this movie and the way Sonic looked was just horrible but I am glad to say that the fixed and end result looks way better and close to the video game version.
Ben Schawrtz is very good as Sonic's voice but the stand out here is Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik because Carrey gives it all in this movie. The Jim Carrey that everyone knows and loves is back, with the same style of humor and energy that launched his career a long time ago.
Overall, the movie is a good video game adaptation, very satisfactory for the fans of the game plus the movie is family friendly so it is a perfectly fun time for the whole family to enjoy. It's a fun adventure and a fittingly movie to relax and laugh a little. 7.1/10
OK guys, that is my review for this one. Next up, hopefully, I will manage to review The Invisible Man and Bloodshot. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
