Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews, quarantine edition, with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies, even in a pandemic:)))
So, as promised, a review per day, as my schedule is a bit tight at the moment and a bit chaotic I am hoping to finish the week with a review and when I say finish the week, I mean that the last review will be on Friday, hopefully. For today I am reviewing the second movie that was based on a comic book from Netflix from this year, which I way better than the other movie based on a comic book from Netflix from this year.
Before I dive in, a little synopsis for you guys and when I say little I really mean little: the plot follows a team of immortal mercenaries that go on a revenge mission.
So, pretty straightforward and not that complicated to follow and I can say that, without the immortal part, the plot is also what you would call a cliche. What makes this movie less cliched than others of it's genre is the immortal part because it tackles immortality with a very interesting spin on it that was maybe only done by the Highlander movies but in a very different way. It also touches on the passage of time and how it affects all of us, even when you are an immortal, the passage of time still affects you and you can still die.
The last bit right there is what makes this movie stand out from the crowd and also the action sequences of course. Very well choreographed and shot, very well edited which, actually, come to think of it, it has very little editing which make the fight and action sequences much more linear, easy to watch and fun to enjoy. The scenes are energetic, full of adrenaline and very well performed by Charlize Theron and the gang.
With all that good stuff the movie, unfortunately, in some occasions falls into it's genres conventions and cliches but the action sequences, cast and sophisticated vision of it's director make for all of that.
Overall, a good movie with an interesting concept and ideas on immortality, the passage of time and legacy, because it is also about legacy as well, which is one of the cliches that are present in this movie. However, the movie is very much worth a watch for it's vision and action scenes. 7.5/10
OK guys, that was my review for this one. Like I said, I will try to do a couple more of these tomorrow and on Friday but after that I will take a bit of a break to sort some stuff out but no worries, I will be back in a short while with more reviews. Next up will be an interesting war movie, The Outpost. Until then, take care, stay safe, stay clean, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
