Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews, quarantine edition, with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies, even in a pandemic:)))

As I said, in my previous review, I will try to review a bunch of movies that I saw in the pass few weeks because my schedule is a bit chaotic nowadays, with a new job and a new place to stay so I will try to squeeze, if I can, a review once in a while, hopefully not to make another huge pause between reviews.

With that out of the way, I shall get back to what counts on this site and for today I have a bit of a interesting little horror flick for you guys but, before I dive in, a little synopsis to get you going, if I can find it: the plot is revolving around a family's trip to a tranquil rental home for a much-needed vacation — and the shady past of Kevin Bacon's character Theo, who denies his involvement in a horrific crime.

The movie surprised me a bit because I expected it to be like a dull, dreary, B-side horror/thriller flick and it isn't. Granted, it has some issues but the movie is very atmospheric, chilling and strangely relevant. It's a bit more serious that you would think. It deals with real life problems like the sense of guilt, parenthood and makes you think twice before you buy, what you think is going to be your dream vacation house.

Instead of ghosts, demons or zombies this movie's terrifying enemy can be closer than you think. The sense of dread and mystery is brought by the shadowy figures that walk around the house which gives the movie more of a psychological feel.

Unfortunately, there are some parts of the movie that drags it down a notch. The main plot is nothing that I haven't seen before, with Kevin Bacon's character being guilty of a crime that he says he did not commit and, although the movie does not have jump scares or things like that, it does have the horror genre cliches here and there. Plus, the movie's twist is a cliche on it's own and is not much of a twist at all because, if you are paying close attention you will notice it before it is revealed to you.

Overall, the movie is an OK watch, that deals with real life problems in a more unique way, with an intriguing set of stuff, a chilling atmosphere but it never really satisfies. This movie will do for booking a holiday home what Jaws did for swimming in the ocean. 6/10

OK guys, that is my review for this one. I will try to do a review per day, this week, hopefully. Next up is going to be The Old Guard, Netflix production. Until then, take care, stay safe, stay clean, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
