Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!
So guys, today is a bit of a special day and a first one for me because I will post for you guys not one but 2 movie reviews and I am actually doing them outside of my home. Because tonight is a bit of a busy one for me, I decided to bring my laptop to work this morning so I can go after work to a coffee shop to write these reviews. If you recall a while back I was thinking of doing some reviews in a coffee shop and calling them Cafe Reviews or something like that. So I saw this opportunity and I've decided to experience it, to see how it will feel.
So, with that out of the way, I should tell you that these are not reviews for new movies but the remaining missed ones. Today two and it only be one more left to do. For today, the first one will be the amazing follow up to the also amazing original A Quiet Place . Before I dive in, as you guys are used by now, a bit of a synopsis for you, although this movie came out in the Spring, I think:
Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
When the first movie came out, in 2018, I was blown away on how good and effective it was, both the concept and the style of the movie. Plus the acting, which was a big and important part of the movie and also, the sound design.
For the sequel, although it still falls into bigger is better, as all sequels do, this one does not feel like that, although is filled with more action sequences, more tense moments and suspenseful situations and a lot more talking than the first one. It feels more scary and a lot more terrifying, which judging by the fact that the first one was already scary and terrifying.
Krasinky knows how to play with your nerves and also he is able not to lose the heart of the story and it's characters. Like I said before, it does feel a bit more bigger but actually it isn't. It's as small as the first one but packs one hell of a punch nonetheless.
The sound design also, as in the first one, plays a very important part in the movie, being used very expertly and effectively when the scene requires it to be. It plays very well in tense and suspenseful scenes, giving it an edge of the seat feel, making you really be on the edge of your seat. I saw it when it came out in cinemas and nothing compares with that experience. This was a movie that was made specifically for cinemas for everyone to see it. Taking about the sound design, I can also mention the jump scares because they feel so effective and not cheap, as most jump scares in most horror movies do.
I also enjoyed the fact that, in the beginning, the movie shows the audience how it actually began, which, I though, the first movie missed that opportunity.
Overall, a sequel that, in my opinion, surpasses the original and I enjoyed it more than the first one, to be honest. A rare occasion when the sequel is better than the original and it makes you wait impatiently waiting for the third part. 8.5/10
OK guys, that was my review for this one. Don't go anywhere because I will post the next review in a few minutes, F9: The Fast Saga.
