Hello guys and welcome back to another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!

So, I am taking a little brake from the Marvel Cinematic Universe recap to bring you my honest opinion for a fresh take on the superhero genre, Brightburn starring Elizabeth Banks. So, with that out of the way, it's time to review this bastard.

First of all, a bit of a synopsis for ya: An alien that looks like a human boy uses its mysterious powers in sinister and destructive ways.

So, have you ever wondered what if Superman, the one that always fights for truth, justice and the american way, the one with the moral compass turns out to be a an evil, killing psychopath?

Nobody? Just me? Come on, there are some people out there who had this question in their minds. What if one of our favorite superhero is a supervillain?

James Gunn answers that question in a very original and fresh way, bringing us a totally new take on the genre. Actually, on the hole superhero origin story. Basically, he took the origin story of Superman and turned on its head, upside down, flip it backwards, did a totally 360' turn, giving us something dark, violent and completely unexpected. It's the same story, same parameters but, instead on focusing on the positive, the story is focused on the negative aspects of the character. And only negative aspects.

There are some bits and bobs that are not perfect, in the script department, especially, the characters are not fully developed, main character as well, I mean, we don't know where he came from, expect from space of course, he don't know if he had these powers one he was a baby as well, the movie hints that he did not, we will never know, did he get the powers when he grew up. There are some questions but, honestly, I can care less because I had a blast seeing this movie.

Overall, it was a good movie, drags a bit at the end, could have gotten a bit more of character development but I appreciated the idea, the new concept, the way they implemented that concept into this story and the way it was constructed. It works, not on all levels but it fucking works! And please, James Gunn, if the movie is successful, don't make a sequel or a trilogy with this. Just focus on Suicide Squad 2 or The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3. This should be on it's own, it's enough, it's a good concept, a breath, actually, a gasp of fresh air in all this superhero movie madness, with Marvel and DC and all those TV shows., which I love, by the way, don't get me wrong but don't ruin it with a sequel. 7.3/10

OK guys, that is my review of this one. Tune in for the Marvel movie recap and, also, a bunch of other reviews for new movies that are scheduled to come out this month like John Wick 3, Godzilla: King of Monsters and others.

Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
