Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!

So, everybody knows the Fast and Furious franchise. Started out very small, with a little movie about a rag team of street racers boosting cars and an undercover cop who joins the gang for real, in the end. 9 movies later, if you count this spin-off, it has become one of the most popular and successful franchises in movie history.

You will ask, how is this compared to the previous movies in this franchise and my answer will come shortly after a little synopsis: ever since hulking lawman Hobbs and Shaw first faced off, the duo have swapped smack talk and body blows as they've tried to take each other down. But when cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist Brixton gains control of an insidious bio-threat that could alter humanity forever - and bests a brilliant and fearless rogue MI6 agent, who just happens to be Shaw's sister - these two enemies must partner up to bring down the only guy who might be badder than themselves.

So, as you can see from that synopsis, the franchise is moving into SF territory and, also, the superhero genre. Just when you thought it could'n get any more bonkers than before. Well, I can assure that it can and, in this movie, the handbrake comes off and it moves at very high speeds.

Let us talk about the positives of this flick.

First of all, the action is what you would expect from a Fast and Furious movie: awesome, crazy, with no regard to the laws of physics containing lots of amazing explosions, very well choreographed fight scenes, great special effects, enhanced with some awesome stop motion and over the top action sequences.

Second, the humor is all over the place in this movie, meaning that is very present but not always sticking the landing. Some jokes do work, especially combined with the interactions between Hobbs and Shaw and, I mean, they really work. Whenever these two are facing each other, you know that some hilarious banter is coming. And boy, hilarious it is! I mean, in some cases, I just burst out laughing because the interactions between them were so funny and in some cases, just a little smirk because, like I said, the jokes don't all work as well as others do.

And, last but not least, the chemistry between the two leads, referring both to the characters and the actors. I mean, they play out of one another very well and, I guarantee you that if these two characters were not played by The Rock and Statham, it would have worked as well as it did. Their interactions and banter is one of the highlights of this movie.

Now, the negative that I noticed in this movie, which kinda separates it from the others, is how little of an impact the family dynamic has in this one, as compared to the other movies in this franchise. The family element is there but I got a feeling that it wasn't as emotional as it is in the previous installments. It's not the center of the story, it's more like a side character, leaving the leading role to the world saving part.

Overall, the movie is a hit for me, as a fan of the franchise and these characters as well. The movie delivered what I wanted, my expectations were met and I have a lot of fun watching and experience it. In terms of action, humor and performances, a special shout out to Vannessa Kirby who is a bad ass in this movie, the movie does it's job. In terms of emotions and the family elements, needs a little more work. Anyway, a lot of fun! 7.2/10

OK guys, that is my review for this one. A little brake the coming week but I will return with a new review in the next weekend, I hope. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
