Hello and welcome back to another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!
Get ready for a monstrous review of the god and king of the Monsterverse, Godzilla and King Kong. No, not Godzilla vs. Kong, that's coming out next year but the most recent movies containing these colossus clashing with others and the humans also.
Before I dive in, a bit of a synopsis: An epic rebirth to Toho's iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure, from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures, pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.
Epic rebirth is dead on because of the disappointing 98' Godzilla, which was a mess of a movie, that I did not enjoy. I did enjoy it at the time, I was very little but now, that I saw this one and the sequel to this movie, a review for that is coming today, that movie is totally forgettable.
This movie wiped clean the trash that was "Godzilla" from 1998 and gave it a new face. Gareth Edwards, like he did with "Monsters", does an excellent job making you wait to see the infamous monster by showing you glimpses throughout the movie before the final showdown.
And this can be a little annoying but it pays off in the end. The human drama exist just enough to not become exaggerated and ridiculous. Although the performances, apart from Juliette Binoche and Bryan Cranston, who are criminally underused, are a bit stiff. Mainly Aaron Taylor - Johnson.
The action is excellent, mainly the final battle and Godzilla himself is astronomically huge. The movie is great, not that long and it delivered in the end. And the battle between Godzilla and Kong will be epic. 7.5/10
Next up, Kong: Skull Island. Stay tuned.
