Hello and welcome back to another round with Movie Nerd, the place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!

Well, ever since I saw the first trailer for this movie, I knew that this is going to be a not so good reboot but I was still hopeful because David Harbor is a good actor. So, the second trailer came and, unfortunately, I had the same feeling, that this movie is going to bomb very hard. A final trailer came and I said to myself, to hell with it, I'm just gonna wait for the movie to come out, I will see it and form my opinion then. So, the movie was released, I saw it and my opinion is as follows but, first, a bit of a synopsis for you folks:

Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.

OK, back to my opinion and my opinion is that this movie is not good but it isn't very bad as well. It has some cool moments, although very briefly, it's a bit of a fun, at times, some jokes stick the landing, some do really not and felt very unoriginal. Some of the action scenes or scene, actually, is quite good and entertaining. I liked the cast, David Harbor, like I said, is a good actor if you are a fan of the hit show Stranger Things but, if you put Perlman's performance against his, I think Perlman would win because his performance was more nuanced, more profound. Harbor's performance is like way of the top. Great to see Milla Jovovich again, after 20 Resident Evil movies she looks the same, no wonder she plays a witch.

So, those were all the good points. Now let's go to the bad ones because there are a lot of them. There is more bad than good in this movie, which is a shame, considering the two Hellboy's that came before it.

First of all, the script sucks and it sucks badly. It's like the guy that wrote it didn't even finish screenwriter's school or whatever they do. There are some lines of dialogue that are plain stupid and ridiculous and most of it doesn't even make sense. The humor, like I said, lands a couple of times but most of it is just unfunny, laughable and unoriginal. The violence is over the top, I mean they exceeded the limit and, also, the gallons of blood. It is if off the charts with the gore, buckets of blood and, sometimes, it can get really disgusting as well. I like gore and some violence in my movies, especially horror and fantasy ones, like a bit of hard R as much as the other person but this was crossing over even for me. I know it's more in tome with the comics but you have to know when to much is to much. If you want to take your kids to this one, I suggest not.

CGI looks cheap and awful most of the time, it's badly edited in some fight scenes, with a lot of shaky cam and quick cuts resulting one hell of an annoying headache.

Overall, what made the Del Toro versions with this character so good, the beautiful style and the story telling perspective were stripped clean off, leaving us with a soulless reboot that nobody asked for. Instead, we asked for a third Hellboy to conclude Del Toro's trilogy but we got this. C'est la vie! 5.5/10

OK guys, that is my review for this one. Coming soon, La Llorona is coming for a visit before the Avengers: Endgame smashes it at the box office. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
