Hello and welcome back to Movie Nerd, the place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK with it!
Well, it has been a while since my last review but, in the meantime, I have created a Facebook page for this site, which you can visit at https://www.facebook.com/TheMovieNerd23/
With that out of the way, let's get to brass tacks. So, this is a movie that I did not anything about it until the trailer appeared and I thought to myself, ''wow, this is a fresh and new approach at some very popular characters''. And it looked funny. Plus, it has one of the best comedic duo Hollywood has to offer, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, who also did Talladega Nights and Step Brothers, two very good comedies.
So, their third collaboration should be also a hit right? Wrong, wrong, wrong! This movie is atrocious, insulting to the characters and the books as well, it's not funny, not in the slightest and the only humor that exists in this movie is profane, cliched, unoriginal and without any inspiration whatsoever.
A little synopsis, if you will: a humorous take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic mysteries featuring Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson.
Yeah, do not take the humorous part from that synopsis for granted because the movie is any other thing but humorous. They tried to kinda modernize the stories, putting some things that are today in the mix, like that Robin Hood movie, which was also a bad result.
In all fairness, I understand what they tried to do and I can get behind an approach like that but something did not clicked in this movie. Nothing works, not even the actors. If you want to see Will Ferrell off the leash, watch the two Anchorman movies because that is comedy at it's best. If you want to see a dreadful, low and unfunny movie, watch this one.
Overall, I am wondering why this movie even exists. Why it was made? What purpose did it achieved? Did it have a purpose in the first place? We will never know because, in my mind, this has already been erased. 3/10
OK guys, that is my review for this one. Some more review coming soon, including Stan and Ollie, Pet Sematary, Shazam!, The Curse of La Llorona, Hellboy and, of course, the one that everyone is waiting for, Avengers: Endgame. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
