Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!
So, because Jumanji : The Next Level has come out, I have decided to give you my thoughts on the original movie from 95' and, also, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, which will be in a separate review. Before I dive into this review, a bit of a synopsis for those who are not familiar with this movie: a magical board game unleashes a world of adventure on siblings Peter (Bradley Pierce) and Judy Shepherd (Kirsten Dunst). While exploring an old mansion, the youngsters find a curious, jungle-themed game called Jumanji in the attic. When they start playing, they free Alan Parrish (Robin Williams), who's been stuck in the game's inner world for decades. If they win Jumanji, the kids can free Alan for good -- but that means braving giant bugs, ill-mannered monkeys and even stampeding rhinos!
So, the movie has it's problems, no doubt about that, with the script, the effects look very dated right now, the story has some issues as well, the decisions of the characters, occasionally don't make sense but, with all of those problems, the movie is still enjoyable and you can watch it with your whole family.
Robbin Williams is very good, the jokes fall flat unfortunately and there not that original or inspired but I can get past that. I like it as a child and I still like it today. 7/10
