Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies and that's OK!
So, with this movie we conclude the Spider Man movie review week and it also concludes Phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which many people thought that Avengers: Endgame was the last movie but no, it's this one and it, let me tell you, I have very much enjoyed this movie and it concludes this phase with great style and unpredictability because we don't really know, for now at least, what will happen or in which direction will the MCU go from here. Maybe Kevin Feige will give us the line up of movies at Comic Con this month.
Enough of that, let us start this review but, before I dive in, a little synopsis for you lot: Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever. Also, before I get into this, I must advise that if you haven't seen this movie and Avengers: Endgame yet, which, by the way, if you haven't, you must be living on a remote island or in the Earth's core and that would be the only explanation. But I digress. If you haven't seen Endgame yet, again, what were you doing, do not see Far From Home because it has some major spoilers but if you have seen Endgame you can safely see this one as well.
Let's begin. Like I said, I very much enjoyed this movie, a little more than Homecoming because it has that feel of a teenage romantic comedy in a superhero movie. And I liked that. I liked how they successfully mixed those two genres together with an end result that can satisfy teenagers as well as the adults. I know that some critics were against the humor being very childish and silly and in some serious moments that would the gravitas of those particular moments. Yes, I agree with that, the humor is childish, silly and it transforms serious moments into a joke, robbing of the gravitas of that particular moment but I had a blast with those comedic moments. I laughed and I really enjoyed myself because that is what Spider Man is in the comics, with that type of humor, campy and silly. This version of Spider Man is a teen so, of course, the movies are targeted for that particular demographic, using that type of humor but if you are a fucking prude, drama queen and old you may not like it.
I said in the beginning that adults can enjoy this movie to but, if you really don't want to enjoy it because the humor is not for you liking, you can home and see Titanic.
The beginning of the movie is a bit sad, with a touching tribute for Iron Man, Cap, Black Widow and Vision as well, the fallen heroes of the Infinity War and Endgame movies. The sadness is still present throughout the movie with gestures of tribute for Tony and the sense of responsibility, pun intended, that weighs on Peter now, to become the next Iron Man.
This movie is, actually, about perception versus deception, what is real and what is an illusion or a fake hero and in comes Mysterio, a character, which from the comics, is a villain for Spider Man but, in this version, he starts being a hero but, eventually, he shows his true colors. The way they handled Mysterio in this movie was perfect, giving us some very nice twists and turns in the second half of the movie and in the end as well with the post credit scenes, which are two of the most shocking and important post credit scenes ever in the MCU. It is imperative to watch them both, the first one being of a much more higher level of importance but both of them are a must watch.
What is left to say? I haven't got anything negative for this movie. The action is great, the special effects are top notch, of course, the multiple variations of suits is a welcoming addition, the story and how it blends itself is very good, the performances are very good, Tom Holland nails, again, the part, making it his own and Jake Gylenhall was a perfect cast as Quentin Beck.
Overall, a very well done movie, worthy of ending the Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a doze of fresh air, sort of speak, entertainment, very good humor, charismatic characters, a nice story, some nice landscapes from the European cities and with some shocking surprises and a shocking ending, making you wonder what's next for our favorite wall crawler and for the future of the MCU. Also, there is a returning character from the Sam Raimi trilogy, which was kind of an influence for this movie and you don't want to miss it. 8.3/10
OK guys, that was my review for this one. Next up, a little break for me for a couple of days but I will return at the end of the week with some more fresh reviews. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
