HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS! 2020 HAS OFFICIALLY ARRIVED! Also, welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!
So, with all the preparations for New Year done but not the hangover, it is there still, I have decided to sober up and kick up the new year with a fresh review of a animated movie from last year, which I did not have on my schedule to see but I glad I did.
Before I dive in, I would like to give you a bit of a synopsis, to see what's all about: super spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way. And if this odd couple can't learn to work as a team, the whole world is in peril.
So, I did not expect to experience a high level of enjoyment with this animated feature because, when I saw the trailers I said that this was going to be your average animation produced by Blue Sky Studios, who did the Ice Age movies and and the two Rio movies. What I can say is that I was pleasantly surprised with this movie because it has everything. It's got cool action scenes, it's got some very good humor and comedy but, also, it has a level of emotions and seriousness that I did not expect. It can be very funny but it can also be emotional and a bit serious at times, which I fancied very much.
The voice casting was on point the whole movie, Will Smith and Tom Holland did one hell of a job with the voice acting, some very good performances.
What more can I say about this movie? Overall, it looks great, it sounds great, it has two excellent actors giving their voices to the characters, great action, great humor, emotion, a bit of drama. The premise is not very original but you can look past that and I did. It is a funny, with a fast pace and a family friendly vibe that can satisfy each member of the family. 7.3/10
OK guys, that is my review for this one. Up next will be the new The Grudge movie. Until then, take care, stay movie nerdy and keep on reviewing!
