Hello guys and welcome back for another round of movie reviews with Movie Nerd, a place where you can be nerdy about movies!
So, after 10 years and a failed attempt at a TV series, we finally got the sequel to the 2009 hit, Zombieland, which I enjoyed the hell out of it. Crazy fun, good quality humor, great action and tons of zombies. Did the sequel lived up to the original? I will tell you after these message :)).
Before I dive in, a bit of a synopsis for you: in the sequel, written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and Dave Callaham, through comic mayhem that stretches from the White House and through the heartland, these four slayers must face off against the many new kinds of zombies that have evolved since the first movie, as well as some new human survivors. But most of all, they have to face the growing pains of their own snarky, makeshift family.
To answer the question if this sequel lives up to it's original, I will say hell yeah!! plus, I dare say, it improves, in terms of story and characters. Of course, it does not offer anything fresh and it does follow the same steps the first one did but, with a few welcoming twists and new characters, this sequel gives the original a run for it's money and I mean that literally.
Like I said, it has a few callbacks to the first one and follows the same story thread but, in doing so, adds to the humor, action, performances, gore and, definitely zombies of the original. It goes bigger and, in this case, it turns out to be better.
The humor is excellent, very funny, the action is awesome, a bit enhanced from the original, the performances are still great, all 4 being as good as ever plus the new actors elevate the movie with their performances, especially Zoey Deutch's character, which I expected to be annoying but it turns out to be anything than that. Also, there is a scene with Luke Wilson's character and Thomas Middleditch's character, which is one my favorite from the movie.
Overall, I very much enjoyed the sequel and, as far as I am concerned, it was worth the wait. It captures the spirit and craziness of the original, ads to it and improves it. Plus, it was a very enjoyable reunion to see on the screen. 7.8/10
OK guys, that is my review for this one. No Gemini Man because I will not see this movie in theaters but I hope I will get to see Countdown this coming week, just in time for Halloween and, of course, Terminator: Dark Fate. Until then, take care and keep on reviewing!
